Batman Party

Table of contents

Introduction

It's party time again! So get ready and start making notes because our theme for this party will be Batman! We all know him and we all love him - he is, after all, one of the most famous super heroes around fighting mobsters and villains; that is, when he's not busy being the elegant and wealthy Bruce Wayne. Below you'll find all the necessary instructions to ensure that your party goes without a hitch - from the invitations down to the drinks. But first, a little background on our masked avenger.

Batman is a fictional superhero created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and first appeared in the 27th issue of Detective Comics in May of 1939. Unlike other superheroes, Batman possesses normal human qualities which he combines with intellect, physical prowess and technology to defeat his villainous counterparts. And when things get really tough, Batman has his faithful sidekick, Robin, and his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, to count on.

When he's not out fighting crime or doing some masterful detective work, Batman loses the cape, gauntlets and mask to become Bruce Wayne, the elegant and very wealthy playboy who witnessed the death of his parents at an early age. And just in case you were wondering, the name Bruce Wayne has been derived from two historic figures: Robert Bruce and ‘Mad’ Anthony Wayne.

Batman Design

For this invitation you’ll simply need a computer loaded with the appropriate software, a printer and the appropriate paper – be sure to use paper that will go with the theme of the party such as gloss or matted paper. Should you not have a printer, simply finish the design on your computer and pop down to your local printing firm.

To start off, you’ll need to design or download images (with the appropriate permission) that relate to the Batman theme. Think in terms of a modified Batman insignia to accommodate your party or any of the other elements. Once you have your image, place it on the front of your card (tip: use a card-design template) along with the name of your party. On the inside of the card you’ll be listing the rest of the details which your guests will have to know about.

For those who want to go a little bit further, consider having an element of your design embossed or debossed on your invitation for that authentic feel.

Batman’s Torch

Quite a simple, yet effective, invitation to make, Batman’s Torch will require a paper-based invitation for each of your guests as described under the Batman Design (though not too big) along with a torch for each of your guests.

To start with, cut out a number of Batman insignias using cardboard paper. For those who don’t fancy themselves experts at cutting, print an image of the Batman insignia and trace the outlines with a hard-tipped blunt pencil on top of the cardboard paper. This will supply you with the necessary shape which you can use as a template for your insignias. Now, take care to ensure that the insignia is small enough to fit over the torches’ lenses.

Once done, simply affix the insignia over the lens and test them in a dark room. If you were successful, the Batman insignia should be cast on walls and other surfaces when the torch is switched on.

Finally, simply attach the paper-based invitation to the torch and get ready to deliver them to your friends.

For those who want to go that extra mile, why not make a pair of cardboard gauntlets that resemble Batman’s and affix them to the exterior of the torch?

The Joker’s Calling Card

For the joker’s calling card, you can follow either one of two routes:

From your nearest Batman merchandise retailer or from the internet, purchase an authentic Batman Joker card. Be sure to check that at one side of the card is blank.

Or

Using your computer and the appropriate software, design a playing card to represent Batman’s arch enemy, the Joker. If you feel your guests won’t immediately recognize it as a character from the Batman series, just include a little Batman insignia somewhere on the card. While keeping the shape of an original playing card, why not make it a bit larger for that authentic invitation feel? Also ensure that the paper you will be printing on is made out of a thick cardboard.

Now, once you have the card, simply convey the details of your party to the blank side. Be sure to use a font appropriate to the Joker for the sake of authenticity. And when all’s done, insert the final invitation into an envelope of slimy green or purple.

Oh, and do take care to seal the envelope with a kiss – one shaped like a deranged Joker’s smile.

Batman Party Dress Code

What could be easier than instructing your guests on what to wear? Simply tell them that the dress code is strictly “Batman”. For those who like a bit of variety, include other characters from Batman, like the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, etc.

Remember to include this on your invitation so that your guests will know what to wear.

Batman Party Decorations

For your party decorations you’ll have to keep a few things in mind:

  • An adequate display of the right colors: yellow, gray, purple, green, etc. Naturally this will depend on personal preference, but we recommend using purple, green, red and black for streamers and decorations of the like.

  • There are some Batman-related items that you will have to include. These are:

    • Batman’s Insignia shining on walls and ceilings with the use of torches or modified lamps.

    • Enlarged versions of the Joker’s calling card mounted against walls.

    • Gauntlets, like those worn by Batman, also mounted against walls.

    • Tablecloths of black & yellow & gray (perhaps sporting the Batman insignia?).

Batman Party Guest Arrival & Announcement

Will you be throwing a party as Bruce Wayne or as Batman? For the former, have Alfred Pennyworth attend your guests and welcome them at the door with an British “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce Jack Penguin and Sarah Catwoman”.

Batman Party Favors

For Batman party favors, you only need to use your imagination and a little bit of cash. Drop by your local Batman merchandise retailer or just have a look on the internet for items which you’ll be able to use as party favors. Think in terms of Batman t-shirts, Batman key chains or even Batman DVDs.

Batman Party Activities

Bat Acronyms

Not only a game to get those Bat-brains working, but an addictive one at that – Bat Acronyms will supply you with hours of pure entertainment.

The game starts off with each one of the guests thinking up a four letter word. Once each guest has one, simply write it down on a piece of paper and put it in a hat or a bowl.

The purpose of this game is to assume that each word is an acronym. As such, one person should draw a word from the hat or the bowl and state the first noun that pops into his or her head that begins with the same letter as the acronym. The next person in a clockwise direction should provide a verb beginning with the same letter as the second letter of the acronym. The third person should supply an adjective or adverb beginning with the same letter as the third letter of the adjective and the fourth person a noun beginning with the same letter as the fourth one of the acronym. Here’s an example:

BOLT: Batman Oscillates Lovely Tunnels

Remember, it’s important to state the first applicable word that comes to mind.

Hidden Batman

Here’s a game everyone will enjoy, and it’s purpose is to find the real Batman who could be dressed anyone of your guests. To start off, cut a piece of paper in as many squares as there are people playing and mark a single one of them with an ‘X’. Now place all the squares, including the one with the ‘X’ into a bag.

Once you and your guests are seated in a circle, pass the bag around, each of the players only taking one piece of paper. The one who has the ‘X’ is Batman, but should take care to conceal his identity.

When every one has their piece of paper, the games begins! For Batman to stay in the game, he or she has to knock other opponents out by winking at them. But he’s not allowed to be seen! All other players who haven’t been chosen as Batman, should watch each other’s eyes to ensure Batman gets caught. If someone suspects who the Batman might be, he or she should say “I see the Batman!” and point out who they think is Batman. If they are right, then Batman is knocked out and the game should start again. However, if they are wrong, they are knocked out of the game.

Bat Acting

We hope you’ve got some serious stomach muscles as this game will be sure to test them. To start off, you’ll need an audience and a number of actors – let’s say four. Once the four actors have been nominated or have volunteered, they and one member of the audience should be asked to leave the room. As soon as they have gone, the audience members should decide on a short scene from Batman to be acted out. Keep it short and sweet as this will be a game to challenge the memories of your actors.

Right, the game begins with one of the actors coming back into the room and being given the scene (which should be kept secret from all the others). Then the next actor should enter the room and watch the first actor act out the scene the audience has decided upon. However no talking is allowed. The second actor must guess what the scene is. Once the first actor is done, he or she should take a seat among the audience and the third actor should enter the room. Once in the room, the second actor will now need to act out what he or she has seen from the first actor.

The pattern should be followed until it is the turn of the fourth actor to act out what he or she has seen from the third actor. At this stage the audience member should enter the room and watch the fourth actor do his or her routine. Once done, the fourth actor must guess what the scene was.

To add a little bit of spice to the whole game, think of a crazy scenes and play the game a couple of times as to allow everyone to have a good laugh.

Food & Drink

Your food and drinks menu should largely depend on the role you play. If you are to impersonate Bruce Wayne, then your party should be lavish with the fines entrées, main courses, desserts and wines. However if you are to be the Batman of the night, then your dishes could be a bit more mysterious and fun. Consider having Penguin burgers (normal burgers with a little decorative umbrella ) or the Joker’s Face (a pizza with a big smile), etc. Do the same for drinks and cocktails to ensure that your party is as authentic as possible.
