Days until Halloween: 58
Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Darth Vader all form part of one of the most celebrated film-series of all time. Yes, you guessed it - Star Wars.
What many might not know is that Star Wars was only made possible due to the earlier success of American Graffiti, George Lucas' second big film and first significant success. And even then, it was only due to the efforts of Alan Ladd Jr. at fox Studios that the film's production and distribution deals got pushed through.
Star Wars is described as an epic space opera, set in a fictional galaxy. And as you may have guessed, where there is space, there are bound to be aliens. The story line itself focuses on a central element called the "Force" which is a form of ubiquitous energy that can be wielded only by certain individuals. The powers of this energy knows no bounds as it can be used for anything from telekinesis to mind control. And as always, there is the ever-present conflict between good and bad - both sides capable of wielding said "Force". Where the main protagonists include Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia, the main antagonists are Darth Vader and The Emperor.
The first Star Wars film was released on May 25th, 1977.
That being said, lets get down to business. We'll light on a couple of ideas which you can use for your own Star Wars-themed party. And, just to get yourself in the right frame of mind, why not watch a couple of Star Wars films again?
No one can argue that a star wars party is bound to be a fun-filled event. And as such, we thought it prudent to give you a couple of ideas for invitations that you’ll be able to buy at your local Star Wars gear retailer or on the internet.
An easy and inexpensive Star Wars party invitation is the Star Wars design, which merely requires a computer, some image editing software and a printer.
Start by selecting an appropriate Star Wars image. Should you wish your guests to come as different Star Wars characters, use an image of that particular Star Wars character. Once you’ve got the images you want to use, be sure to include the following information:
As soon as your invitations are finished, print them on some glossy paper to emphasize the uniqueness of the event. If you don’t have a printer, take your design down to your local printing firm.
For those with an agreeable budget, the light saber will be the ultimate party invitation. They can either be bought from your local Star Wars accessories retailer or off the internet.
Once you have the invitation light sabers, simply attach a handmade invitation to request the presence of your guests. Just remember to include batteries (or ask them to get their own) so that they’ll be able to come prepared.
Why not tie the dress code in with your invitations? As mentioned above, you’ll be able to assign your guests’ roles or let them choose it themselves. When they’ve finally chosen, they should dress accordingly, as each of the characters in Star Wars have their own outfit.
Should you or any of your guests have any difficulty in putting the uniform together, use the internet as a resource in finding tips that will help you or to buy the uniform in question (such as Darth Vader’s outfit).
As for decorations, there are a number of things that you can do, ranging from the simple and inexpensive to the more pricey and complicated. Here are a couple of ideas to help you set the mood for your Star Wars party:
Planets & Stars: Star Wars, as we know, is set in a fictional universe. As such, what better way to decorate the room than with planets and stars? These can easily be made from paper mache or bought off the internet.
Here’s a tip: Space is dark and as such it wouldn’t pay to have the lights on bright. Instead, dim the lights to a level where anyone can still see and use small spotlights to illuminate your planets and stars. For that central area where food will be served or duels will take place, use bigger lights.
Not interested in decorating your place to resemble a Star Destroyer or the Death Star? Well, why not decorate it like the forest moon, Endor. All you’ll need here will be lots of foliage, sandbags, etc. Additionally, for those with the necessary space and safety in place, an outdoor bon fire might be appropriate.
Again, lighting can be played with here to create certain effects. Consider dimming the lights and putting spotlights strategically in the foliage of plants.
Polis Massa was the birth place of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa. Before it was destroyed it was an arid planet full of dust. For those who neither feel like space or the greenery of Endor, decorating your place like the underground city of Wiyentaah will be sure to impress the guests.
What makes Star Wars such a great theme for a party, is that it is a completely versatile subject. To announce your guests, why not impersonate the voice of Darth Vader or, even more singular, the speech of Jedi Master Yoda. Here are a couple of Yoda’s guest announcements:
“Welcome Luke skywalker and princess leia. Herh herh herh.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, my pleasure to announce, it is, The Emperor. Yeesssssss.”
“Your highness, to introduce allow me. Mr. & Mrs. Sith.”
For those who haven’t used the light sabers as invitations, why not use them as party favors for your themed Star Wars party? These will not only provide hours of fun as they zoom and woosh through the air, but also act as a keepsake of one of the best Star Wars parties ever.
Another very popular Star Wars party favor is of course the Star Wars mug. These can be bought at all Star Wars supplies retailers or off the internet. And to add to ensure that your guests remember the party even better, buy the mug appropriate to his or her character (assuming you know who they’ll be attending as).
Star Wars will forever remain one of those timeless film series, bound to entertain. Have your party over the span of a weekend and kick off by watching the whole Star Wars series. This way you’ll be sure to set the mood for an unforgettable event.
Playing poker with Luke Skywalker, The Emperor and The Sith? Who wouldn’t love that!? Star Wars playing cards are widely available and, best of all, inexpensive. Get them from your local Star Wars supplies retailer or directly from the internet.
Perhaps one of the most memorable scenes in Star Wars is that of the palace of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. Although this scene contained dancers as well as an alien band, why not get into the groove and perform a bit of Star Wars karaoke as soon as the night is going full swing?
Thought we forgot about the most important part of Star Wars, didn’t you? The battle with the Dark Side is not only an omniscient Star Wars element, but also embodies the eternal struggle between good and evil. Here you and your guests will be able to divide up in teams and play-fight against each other with your light sabers.
Do take care to put responsibility and safety first and remember that it’s only a play fight.
Think you know your Star Wars, eh? Well, we’ll see. For those who don’t quite feel like a Star Wars play fight, why not test each other’s memories by getting your hands on a Star Wars trivia set? Again, these are available from all Star Wars merchandise retailers or from the corresponding internet retailers.
What would you serve Darth Vader? Or even the Emperor and Yoda? Well, luckily you have a wide selection of modern foods that you’ll be able to serve as the emphasis will be on naming them correctly. Here are a couple of examples:
