How many different sports can you think of that uses cheerleaders to cheer the teams and help the crowds on? There are quite a lot! And if you and your friends are cheerleaders or are planning to be one day, then this party is especially for you! Below you will find some helpful tips and info on organizing the ultimate cheerleader party. But first, a little more about cheerleading.
Just in case you didn't know, there is one person responsible for the art of cheerleading: Johnny Campbell. The story goes that on the 2nd of November 1898 Johnny decided to cheer the University of Minnesota on by directing the crowd with a cheer that went "Rah, Rah, Rah! Sku-u-mar, Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity! Varsity! Varsity, Minn-e-So-Tah!” and is still being used today.
But back then cheerleaders weren't known as such. They were called yell-leaders because it was their purpose to inspire crowds to yell at the top of their voices to encourage their teams as best they can. These yell-leaders were initially male-only squads but later also allowed girls as there weren't too many other sports in those days that females could partake in. This happened only in 1923.
However we have much to thank for the fairer folk as it was their ability to combine tumbling and gymnastics with cheerleading that gave rise to the wonderful routines we all know and love today.
And that being said, it's time to
organize your cheerleader-themed party!
Below you will find some useful ideas
for Cheerleader Party invitations. Should you require any of the
materials or items necessary, just ask your parents to help by
purchasing them from a retail store in your area or from the
internet. And remember, including the following information in your
invitation will ensure that your guests will have all the information
they need.
Party Name: Think of a cool name for your party, something like “Jane's Rah Rah Bash!”
Salutation:
Date & Time
Venue/Location
Dress Code
Contact Details
Additional information…
If you don't want to spend too much money on invitations, why not create a cheerleader design? These can be done using a computer loaded with the appropriate software and a printer. If you don't have a printer, just ask a friend if you can use theirs when the time comes or pop down to your local printing store and make use of their services.
Start off by choosing an appropriate
template for your invitation. This will ensure that you know how to
place the images and text but also that the invitation prints
correctly. Next you need to decorate your invitation with appropriate
cheerleader images. Remember that the main design will go on the
front of your invitation along with the party name while the minor
designs and the party details will go on the inside or flip side of
the invitation.
Once done, have it printed and get
ready to deliver them.
Cheerleading isn't cheerleading without pom-poms and as such you will need to pop down to your local cheerleading equipment retail store and get your hand on as many sets of pom-poms as there are friends that you want to invite. If you have the necessary skill you can make them yourself.
In addition to the pom-poms you will need to make some normal invitations. For help on this see the Cheerleader Design invitation.
Once you have everything, glue the
pom-poms to the invitation card (or just hide the card in the
pom-poms) and get ready to deliver them.
If you and your friends share a favorite team, why not make a pennant for this particular team that will double as an invitation?
To do this you will need to cut out the pennant shapes from your cardboard. Remember to leave rectangular strips at the broad end of the pennant which you will use to fasten the cardboard to the pennant poles. Once you have all the pennant triangles, use the paint to decorate them with a suitable design and also to adorn them with your invitation details.
Finally, use some glue to carefully
adhere the pennant to the pennant poles. For further decoration use
some glitter and tassels.
As it is a cheerleader party, you will
simply have to state “Cheerleader Uniform and Pom-poms” under the
dress code of your invitation.
Here are a couple of decorations to
consider for your Cheerleader Party. If you aren’t planning on
making them yourself, then just ask your parents to help you purchase
them from the appropriate retailer in your are or from the internet.
Balloons
Various colored Pom-poms
Pendants
Team Banners
Streamers
Photographs of famous cheerleaders
Think of a cool cheer to welcome your
friends with. This can be something like “Give me a C! Give me an
A! Give me a R! Give me a L! Give me a Y! Who do we have?! CARLY!”
Party favors are small gifts that you
can give your friends when they arrive at the party. These items are
often used as reminders of a good party or at the party itself. Below
you’ll find a couple of ideas which you and your parents can buy
from a store in your area or from the internet.
Pom-poms
Trophies
Cheerleader Jerseys
Banners
Pendants
There’s nothing like a good party
activity to ensure that a great time is had by all. Below are a
couple of ideas which you can use and change as you want to suit the
purposes of your party.
Think you and your friends know a lot
about cheerleading? If so, test your knowledge with some trivia.
Cheerleader trivia sets can be obtained from most toy stores or from
the internet.
Divide your friends into groups and
instruct each group to invent a chant or routine that the other group
has to practice and perform. These can either be serious and stylish
or totally silly. The team that invented the chant or routine then
has to award points to the performing team.
When you're tired of practicing chants and routines or just don't
feel like answering tricky trivia questions, you can always just sit
back and relax with all of your friends and watch a couple of
cheerleader films. Here are a couple of titles you might enjoy:
Bring It On
Bring It On Again
Bring It On: All Or Nothing
Bring It On: In It to Win It
Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders
Man of the House
Cheerleader Camp
Sugar & Spice
Before your friends arrive, ask them to bring as many plastic bags as they can possibly find! And in case you haven't already figured it out, this activity will have you and your friends design the largest Pom-pom you have ever seen!
Do this by cutting plastic bags, paper, news paper, etc. into strips.
You can make the strips longer by taping or gluing them together.
When you are done, gather one end of all the strips of paper together
and tape them together to make one giant pom-pom.
Like us, cheerleaders are normal people who eat normal food. As such you will only need to serve those dishes you and your friends enjoy. These can include, pizza, burgers, tacos, sandwiches, fruits, etc.
