Introduction

If there's one time of the year everyone loves, it's Christmas! And as we all know, it's the time of giving as well as receiving which means that a Christmas party for you and your friends will be the ultimate event where you can show each other appreciation. Below you will find a couple of ideas to help you organize your Christmas party. But first, a little about the history of this joyous occasion...

It needn't be said that we all know Christmas as the day that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. But did you know that Christmas was celebrated even before Jesus was born as an event with another name and for a different purpose?

Some of the most historic accounts suggest that Christmas was celebrated as the winter solstice - that time of year when the harshest of the winter season has passed and when the days will be getting longer as Spring moves closer. Sir Isaac Newton believed this as well as the ancient Norse people with their celebration of Yule. The latter had, in fact, a tradition where the father of a family along with all the boys would enter the woods to go and look for the biggest wooden log they could find. They would then set the log alight and have a Yule feast until the log burned out. This could take more than a week! Aside from the Norse people, the Romans also celebrated this day as "Dies Natalis Solis Invicti", or "The Birthday of the Unconquered Sun" - when the sun would again emerge after the long, cold winter.

For the purposes of our party, however, we'll simply focus on the fact that it is a time to be festive for each and everyone.

Christmas Party Invitations

To get your Christmas party going, you'll need to make some invitations to invite your guests. For this purpose, we've listed a couple of ideas which you will be able to use. If you need any of the items mentioned, simply ask your mom and your dad for some help to get them. Remember to include the following details to ensure that your guests have all the necessary information:

  • Party Name: To get th attention of those people you invite, you'll have to think of an awesome name for your Christmas party. Think along the lines of “Mary's Festive Bash”

  • Salutation

  • Date & Time

  • Venue/Location

  • Dress Code

  • Contact Details

  • Additional information…

In addition, you can also add a couple of these festive quotes by famous people to your invitations:

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.” - Norman Vincent Peale

“Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration is being wreathed in smiles.” - Unknown

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” - Charles Dickens

Miniature Christmas Trees

For this invitation you can go one of two routes:

  • Buy a miniature Christmas tree for each of your guests. Along with the Christmas trees, you'll also want to buy or make some decorations for your tree and, most importantly, buy or make your own Christmas party invitations.

When you have everything, decorate the tree and attach your invitation to an appropriate place.

  • As opposed to the above, you can make your own Christmas tree by cutting out its shape from cardboard and painting it green. Next you can decorate it with a number of miniature Christmas decorations by gluing them on. Next up, simply write the details of your party on the back in the appropriate festive font.

Santa's Hat

Some call them Santa's hats, other claim they belong to Santa's Little Helpers. Regardless of who they belong to, they will make excellent gifts. To start off, you'll have to get one of these hats for each of your guests. In addition to the hats, get as much candy to fill them with as you can. And last but not least, make your own Christmas card with all the details of your party. Once you have all the items, simply fill the hat with the candy and hide the invitation in the candy.

The Christmas Star

On each and every Christmas tree there's a star that goes on top. This star is special, because it is said to have guided the Three Wise Men (or Three Kings) to Bethlehem where Jesus was born.

So for this invitation, you will need to make a star for each of the friends you plan to invite. Do this by cutting out the appropriate shape out of cardboard and decorating it with paint and glitter. And remember, ensure that you include all the necessary details of your party on the back.

Christmas Party Dress Code

While the traditional clothes for a Christmas party is rather formal, it might not be so suitable for those with youth on their side. After all, children want to play and, as such, need clothes to play in. But just to add to the festive spirit, why not state “Fun Christmas Clothes” on your invitation? This can include anything from Rudolph's glowing nose to reindeer antlers and Christmas hats.

Christmas Party Decorations

Here are a couple of decorations that you can use for your Christmas party. Be sure to ask your mom or dad to help you buy them at your local Christmas supply store or off the internet:

  • Lights

  • Figurines

  • Baubles

  • Banners & Pennants

  • Christmas Trees

  • Bows - Red and Green

  • Wreaths

  • Garlands

Christmas Party Favors

As you can imagine, there are loads of them! You can either make your own or simply ask your parents to take you down to your local Christmas store to buy them. Here are a couple of ideas:

  • Christmas tree decorations – buy or make a decoration for each of your friends' Christmas trees. This will ensure that they remember you and your party on that special day.

Christmas Party Activities

Christmas party activities are plentiful and will ensure that a good time is had by all. Just in case you are stuck for some ideas, below you'll find a couple of games that you can use. If you need any of the items required, just ask your parents to help you get them from local stores in your area or from shops on the internet.

Treasure Hunt

Ask your mom or your dad to hide a Christmas-related prize somewhere in your house. They will also have to make up some clues that you and your friends will have to follow to reach the hidden treasure.

To add some fun to the activity, ask your parents to design a couple of different, yet equal-difficulty clues so that you and your friends can split up into treasure-hunting teams.

Carols

It's the time to be festive and jolly, so get your friends together and sing some Christmas carols. If you are really good, why not spread the joy by singing for other people too? Just ask one of your parents to accompany you as you go out.

Three-legged Elf Race

For this activity you will need some scarves, belts or anything else you can use to tie the left leg of one person and the right leg of another person together.

Once everyone is tied up, race from start to finish with only three legs! And just in case you thought this was easy, think again! This game requires team work and a lot of coordination.

Where's Rudolph?

For this game you will need to get a scrap of paper equal to the number of your guests of your guests. Once you have the paper, mark one of them with a big red circle that looks like Rudolph's nose.

When everyone is ready they have to sit in a circle and take a piece of paper each. When everyone has their piece of paper, they have to look at it but keep it a secret. The person with the piece of paper marked with the red dot is Rudolph.

Now, Rudolph has to stop people from finding him out by winking at them. But he mustn't be seen winking, except by the person he is winking to!

When Rudolph winks at someone and that person sees it, then that person is out of the round and not allowed to give any indication that who it is that winked at them. However, if someone suspects that they know who it is, they have to shout “I see Rudolph!” and point to the person. If they are right, the game starts again with a different Rudolph. If they are wrong, however, then the person who shouted “I see Rudolph” is out.
