Fairy Party

Table of contents

Introduction

It's time to get your wand out and spread your little wings, because it's time for a fairy party! And just in case you needed some help in organizing your fairy party, we've added a couple of details below which you can use and change at your own will. But before we get to all the important stuff like invitations, party favors and party activities, let's have a little historical look at the wee folk.

Did you know that the word "fairy" is actually derived from the word "fae" which was used in medieval Europe? From there the word evolved to be used as "Fae-ery" to describe anything to do with these magical beings and, ultimately, the modern word "fairy". Now the only problem lies in deciding to which magical creatures this word pertains to.

While some say fairies are exclusively female or sometimes consisting of both male and female folk, others say the word "fairies" encompasses more than just the winged beings that resemble humans in appearance (though much smaller). These basically include any being with the capability for magic such as goblins, gnomes, pixies, etc.

Perhaps more important however, is to investigate where fairies exactly come from, other than the "land of the faes". While some say that fairies are actually a form of dead people, there are others who claim to know that fairies are actually angels that were cast from heaven but did not go to hell. Instead, they came here to show us magic and beauty.

And that being said, it's time to get busy with some fairy party organization! So get your notepad and a pen and let's begin!

  • Date & Time

  • Venue/Location

  • Dress Code

  • Contact Details

Fairy Design

To make your Fairy Design invitation you will need a computer loaded with the appropriate software as well as a printer. To start off it will be best if you use a template for your design. These are often found in word processors or can be downloaded from the internet.

The first thing you will want to do is to decorate your invitation with some appropriate images. Looking on the internet, you will find millions of fairy images to use. Just be sure that you have permission to use them. Once you have all the decorations it's time to add the details of your invitation (use a fairy-like font for the best possible effect). Once you are done, print your invitations.

Now at this stage you can either put your invitations in beautifully decorate envelopes or you can decorate them a little more by using some glitter and glue. Once the glue has dried, get ready to deliver them.

Fairy Wand

Spread the magic with your the Fairy Wand invitation! For this invitation you will need some cardboard, glue, glitter, paint and a rigid straw.

To start off you will have to cut out two star shapes from the cardboard. These needn't be too big, but should be big enough to accommodate all the invitation details. Once that has been done, use the paint to decorate them and leave them to dry. Once dry, trace a pattern on the stars with the glue (apply the glue lightly) and sprinkle with the glitter. Remember, for both stars you only need to decorate one side each.

When the glue has dried, write or paint the invitation details to the cardboard stars. Once the paint has dried, it's time to glue the blank sides of the two stars together around the straws.

Fairy Figurine

If your parents are willing to spend a little money on the invitations to your party, then ask them if they could help you buy a number of fairy figurines, one for each of the guests you plan to invite. In addition to the figurines, you will also want to make a paper-based invitation. Instruction on this can be found in the Fairy Design invitation.

Once you have the figurines and the invitations, simply put them together and get ready to deliver them.

Fairy Party Dress Code

This is where you have to decide what you think is a fairy: is it a tiny little girl or woman with a want or does it refer to any small magical creature? After you've made the decision, you can simply state “Fairy” on your invitation or “Fairy”, “Elf”, “Goblin” etc. You can also ask each of your friends to dress up as different characters.

Fairy Party Decorations

Decorations for a fairy-themed party can be a bit tricky to figure out. As such we've put our heads together to help you with a couple of ideas:

  • Pink, white or silver table cloths

  • Ceilings draped with pink, white, silver or blue gauze.

  • Pumpkin coaches (like in Cinderella – remember the fairy godmother?)

  • Strings of (fake) pearl everywhere

  • glitter

  • frills

  • streamers

  • balloons

Fairy Party Guest Arrival & Announcement

When the other fairies arrive everyone already present should curtsy as a sign of respect. Other than that, just be sure to introduce your guests to one another if they are not already acquainted.

Fairy Party Favors

Hmm, what would be ideal fairy party favors? Well, that's actually very easy as they are abundant in stores everywhere and on the internet. Here are a couple of our ideas which you are free to use:

  • Fairy Writing Paper

  • Fairy Stationary

  • Fairy Figurines

  • Fairy Wings

  • Fairy Key chains

  • Fairy Dream Catchers (If you can't find them, just make a normal dream catcher and decorate it with fairy items).

Fairy Party Activities

To ensure that a good time is had by all, you will need to have a couple of activities in mind for you and your friends to enjoy. Below you will find a fitting selection of party activities.

Fairy Dance

At every fairy party there must be a fairy dance, else it wouldn't really be a fairy party! So for this activity you and your friends will need a fairly sized area in which you can dance and, of course, some music.

But why not make things a little more interesting by choreographing the steps to your own dance? This needn't be difficult and can be done in line-dancing fashion where all the dancers have to perform the same movements.

Jump Rope Rhyme

For this activity you will naturally need a jump rope. In addition, you will probably also need a jump rope rhyme. Here's one of our favorites:

Fairy Fairy Fairy Wand

The lonely frog is in the pond

Will his princess ever come

to make his curse become undone?

Just a kiss, just a kiss

Nothing more than a moment's bliss

Is all our little frog will need

to become a prince on a silver steed.

Now, for those who know they have what it takes, why not invent your own fairy jump rope rhyme? Have a competition with your friends to see who can come up with the most original jump rope rhyme.

Fairy Whispers

How good are you and your fellow fairies at delivering messages? Well, now's the time to find out.

Everyone should sit in a circle, say about half an arm's length from one another. Once everyone is settled one person should think of a short message and whisper it in the ear of the person to their left. That person must then whisper it in the ear of the person to their left, etc. When the message arrives at the person to the right of the creator of the original message, it should be said aloud. The next person to think of a message is the one who said it out loud the last time (the person to the right of the previous originator).

Now, there's just one rule that has to be kept in mind here: no one is allowed to repeat the message to the person they whispered it to.

Pin the Wand on the Fairy

For this activity you will need a poster of a fairy, a paper wand with some silly putty attached to one end and of course a blind fold.

To start off, one person has to wear the blindfold. The others then have to spin that person around while saying a rhyme (can't think of one? Why not use our Jump Rope rhyme?). Once the rhyme is finished, the blindfolded person has to pin the wand to the fairy. The person who gets it the closest to the correct hand of the fairy, wins.
