It's time for a party and since you are on this page you know what kind of party we're talking about... a Hollywood-themed party for all those lovers of films and acting. And to help you along the way, we've compiled a couple of the best tips and some information that you will be able to use for the organization of your party. First, a little more about the history of Hollywood.
Now just in case you didn't know, Hollywood was once known as Cahuenga. This was before there were any film studios, when Native Americans still inhabited the area around the Santa Monica Mountains. They were later moved to missions and reservations with the arrival of the first European settlers. But even then they didn't immediately start developing the land we know as Hollywood today. In 1853 there was only a single brick building.
Around 1870 more people settled in the area as the soil proved fertile and agriculture was on the rise. It was during this period that a man named H.J. Whitley married a woman called Gigi. It was on their honeymoon that they decided to replace the name of Cahuenga with that of Hollywood. Today Mr. Whitley is known as the father of Hollywood, a place that had its first film studio in an old roadhouse on Sunset Boulevard (it was called Nestor Studio) and that has since grown to become probably the most influential entertainment entity in the world.
And all that being said, it's time to get started on organizing your Hollywood party!
Invitations are of course one of the
main elements of any party, and are quite important too – they are
the very things that supply your friends with information about the
party and can often help them with the decision-making process. Below
you will find some of our invitation ideas which you are free to use
and change as you wish. If you need any of the items required, be
sure to ask your parents to help you get them. In addition, be sure
to include the following information:
Party Name: Be sure to give your party a cool sounding military name. An example would be: “General McGuire's MP Bash”.

Additional information…
Everyone wants to be a star! So why not put a smile on your friends’ faces by making them their very own Hollywood star? What you will need for this is some cardboard, some glue, gold/silver glitter and a picture of each of your friends.
When you have all the items, use some scissors to cut star shapes from the cardboard. These will be the invitations, but need to be decorated first. Oh, and you will have to ensure that the stars are big enough for the pictures of your friends.
Now, you will have to decorate both sides of the star with the glitter. This can be done by applying a thin layer of glue first, and then sprinkling the glitter over it. In both cases you will have to keep in mind that the invitation details as well as the picture of your friend will also have to fit on the card.
When the glue (with the glitter
sprinkled over it) has finally dried, adhere the image of the friend
whose invitation you are making to the one side and the invitation
details on the other side.
For this invitation you will need a computer loaded with the appropriate software as well as a printer. If you don’t have either of these, be sure to ask someone who does whether you can use theirs.
Now what you will want to do is to download or scan a Hollywood movie poster of a film that you and your friends love very much onto the computer. Once you have the poster, you will have to use some image editing software to change the title of the poster to your party name. When that has been done, you will want to change the credits on the bottom of the poster to include all the party details.
The next and final step is of course
the printing of the poster. If your printer can’t print on the
appropriate size paper, then it might be a good idea to send the
invitations to your nearest printing firm.
If you’ve ever watched a Hollywood documentary, you’ll know that the director (that’s the guy that calls all the shots) usually wears a cap. For this invitation you will need to get each of your friends a cap, preferably with the word ‘Director’ on them, but ‘Hollywood Star’ or anything to the like will do just fine as well. If you are having trouble finding these at your local Hollywood apparel retailer, then just have a look on the internet (and remember to ask your parents to help you buy them).
Now, in addition to the Hollywood cap you will have to make a paper-based invitation for each of your friends. This can easily be done using the appropriate invitation template on a computer and then printing them out afterwards. If you don’t think that’s the option for you, then just ask your mom and/or dad to take you to your local stationary supply store and pick up a couple of invitation cards (one for each friend) there.
And finally, when you have the caps and
have filled out all your invitations with the appropriate details (as
listed above), simply attach the latter to the former and get ready
to deliver.
As you know you will have to state the
dress code on the invitations, and as such you will have to put on
your thinking cap. Do you want your friends to come dressed as
Hollywood stars or characters from a movie? Whatever you decide, you
will have to be very specific and state the requirements under the
“Dress Code” section of your invitations.
To ensure that your party is as
authentic Hollywood as possible, you will have to ensure that the
decorations are according to the theme. Here are a couple of ideas
for decorations. Just take note that you will have to ask your
parents to help you buy them from the internet or at the appropriate
retail store in your area.
Movie Posters
Megaphones
Film cans
Film Reels
Clapboards
Director Chairs
Film Strips
Balloons
Streamers
Seeing as it’s a Hollywood party, you
will have to ensure that there’s a red carpet to the front door. In
addition, ask your parents to receive your friends at the front door
and announce them over a megaphone to the other guests so that all
the stars may know each other.
Party favors are those little items
that you give your friends as thanks that they came to your party and
to ensure that they remember it for the days, weeks, months and
possibly years to come. Here are a couple of ideas which you and your
parents can by from your local Hollywood merchandise retailers or
from the internet.
T-shirts
Tote Bags
Posters
Miniature Signs
Film Reels
Film Cans
Key Rings
To start off the evening, get your hands on a couple of Hollywood movies that you and your friends will enjoy. Now if you really want to make it fun, why not ask your friends to bring their sleeping gear so that you can watch films and get on with the rest of the party over the course of two or three days?
If this can’t provide for hours of
fun, then nothing will!
Having watched all the films you can possibly fit in over the course of an evening or a weekend, now’s the time to test your memory and see how much you remember from your favorite films. Alright, we know you can probably recite the whole movie without any help at all, so this is where you and your friends will improvise.
If you are planning to do this before
the party, make sure you have some props ready as well as a backdrop
for the reenactment. Now, as soon as it’s time for the activity,
gather your friends around and select someone (if it’s not going to
be you) to start off. The rest of the participants can then decide on
their roles and fall in to the scene as required.
If you don’t think you have any acting abilities, then you are probably much better suited to be the brains behind the scenes. For this activity you will naturally need a trivia set which you can either make yourself by compiling some questions and answers yourself (by doing some research on the internet) or by buying a trivia set from your local toy store (or the appropriate retailer) or from the internet.
As soon as you have your trivia set,
it’s time to pair your guests into groups and get going on the film
trivia. As a last note, it might be prudent to pair those contestants
who you know will have a strong knowledge about the film industry
with those who may not know as much.
The superstar stand-in is easy and will provide one of those opportunities that you and your friends will be able to remember for years to come. And all you will need is a life-size stand-in of some film stars, a chair (if the stand-ins happen to be taller than you) and, of course, a camera.
When it’s finally time for the activity, all you will need to do is to get your friends together and to ask your parents to take a couple of pictures. These can make great party favors when done right.
Now of course a star-studded event
deserves some star-studded dishes. In terms of food and drink, ask
your parents to help you come up with some fantastic Hollywood-themed
dishes. Here are a couple of ideas that you can use:
Star-shaped sandwiches
Clap board cake
Film strip brownies
Star-shaped cakes
Candy
As for drinks, you will be able to
serve anything that you and your friends like. Why not give it some
interesting names? Ideas here include:
Fantasia Punch (fruit punch)
Superman’s Juice (Sodas)
Hollywood Deluxe (Chocolate Milkshakes)
