While Halloween night means loads of fun and goodies for kids (and dental bills for their parents), it actually has roots dating back to the eighth century when Pope Gregory III established November 1 as the date for a feast to honor all the saints, called All Saints’ Day.  Since all saints are considered hallowed people, the eve of the feast came to be called Eve of All Hallows, or, for short, Halloween.
