Going around the world needn't take a lot of money. In fact, you don't even have to set foot outside your front door, especially when you're having your own Around the World party. Below you'll find all the information you'll need to organize a successful themed party. But first, a little about our current topic.
Whether you want to travel around the world at your own leisure or follow in the footsteps of Mr. Phileas Fogg (from the novel, Around the World in 80 Days, by Jules Verne), the point is to see the many wonders the world have to offer. And as such, it would be only apt to host a party where the wonders of the world can be seen in the privacy of your own home or your chosen venue.
Now of course the main subject of the
party would be the decorations, as these would need to reflect
different cultures within different countries. And, as such, you'll
need to decide on a list of appropriate locations according to which
you'll decorate the venue. Taking a leaf from Mr. Fogg's book, we can
use his travel itinerary as a suitable example:
London to Suez
Suez to Bombay
Bombay to Calcutta
Hong Kong to Yokohama
Yokohama to San Francisco
San Francisco to New York
New York to London
For the purposes of your own party, you may choose whichever cities you like. Just be sure to do some research before hand as to ensure that your theme is as authentic as possible.
Around the World Party Invitations
Regardless of the theme, any party's success depends on the people that arrive. And to ensure they arrive, you'll of course need to send out invitations that not only reflect the theme of your party, but invitations that will positively convince those you invite to come.
Below you'll find a number of ideas for
invitations which you may use and change at your own will. Be sure to
include the following details on the invitation as to ensure that
your friends have all the information they require.
Party Name: Be create and give your party a suitable name. An example for this theme would be “Sarah's Global Fiesta”.
Date & Time
Around the World Collage
Easy and quite effective, this invitation will simply require the use of a computer loaded with the appropriate software and connected to the internet as well as a printer. Should you not have a printer, just pop down to your local printing firm and make use of their services.
To start off, you'll have to collect images from around the world that reflect an object, place, people or landmark that a specific country is known for. Get as many as you can and, using the appropriate image editing software, arrange them into a beautiful collage for use on the front page of your party invitation template. Be sure to include the details as listed above inside the card or on the back.
Once your invitation is done, simply
have it printed on the appropriate paper and get ready to have them
Flags of the World T-shirt
For those with a slightly higher invitation budget, this one is sure to be a hit with your friends – after all, they'll be able to use it again and again and again.
To start off, you'll need to get your hands on a t-shirt for each guest. These can be in any cut of your choice, but remember to get them in a suitable color. White or black are the most neutral colors, which is why we'd recommend them.
Next up you'll have to get your hands on images of flags from around the world. Using your computer, arrange them in a creative fashion so as to make for an eye-catching design.
Once done, contact someone you know will be able to print the details of your party as well as your image on the t-shirt. Should you not know of someone capable of the job in your area, simply log on to the internet and conduct a search as they are plentiful. Be sure have them send you a mock-up of the final design (both of the front and the back if you are having both sides printed) to ensure that your invitation will come out as you have imagined it.
Once done and when you have received
your t-shirts, all that's left to do is to have them delivered to the
For t his invitation you'll need to do a bit of shopping. Using the internet or your local global souvenir retailer, buy a small item unique to a country other than your own. For example, if you are American, then consider a small replica of the Great Wall of China. If you are British, think about the Eiffel Tower. You'll have to do this for each of the individuals you intend to invite to your party (these items can all be the same or different for every invitation you want to send out).
Once you have all the items, you'll only need to create a small card-based invitation and affix it to an appropriate place.
Around the World Party Dress Code
Although this is one of the easier
aspects of the party, it will still require some thought. Consider
the type of Around the World party you will be hosting: Will there be
people of different nationalities? Will all your guests be the same
nationality but come as foreigners for the evening? All these
questions answered will help you determine the dress code of your
party, e.g. 'Semi Casual' or 'Chinese' or 'French', etc.
Around the World Party Decorations
Struggling to think of appropriate decorations for your Around the World party? Well, if so, then have a look at our ideas. Should you require any of these items or the materials as described, simply visit the appropriate retailer in your area or log on to the internet and buy them there.

Around the World Party Guest Arrival & Announcement
As for party announcements and
greetings, well, we'd recommend that you brush up on your language
skills and learn a couple of phrases in different languages. Here are
a couple of examples:
Welsh: Dydd da (Hello)
Turkish: Merhaba (Hello)
Swedish: Hallå (Hello)
Mandarin Chinese: Ni Hao (Hello)
French: Bonjour (Good Day)

ideas, consider some of the following as suitable ideas:
Country Flags – Supply each of your guests with a flag from another country which has the name of your party and the date either written or printed on it.
Country Souvenirs – you don't have to go to France to see the Eiffel Tower. Simply log on to the internet or go down to the appropriate retailer in your area and buy your guests a small replica of a landmark unique to individual countries around the world.
Country Flag T-shirt – For more details, have a look under the Invitations above. Though in this instance, you only need to ensure that the name of your party as well as the date is printed on to the t-shirt.
Around the World Party Activities
Around The World Quiz
For this game you'll either need a quiz set or make up your own questions by doing a little bit of research before the event. If you plan on buying a quiz set, simply pop down to the appropriate retailer and purchase one there or just log on to the internet.
The purpose of this game is to test
each other's knowledge about the countries of the world. Group your
guests together ensuring that those who you suspect to be strong
players are with those who may be proficient in other areas – this
will make for a balanced game enjoyed by all.
Around The World Film Festival
For those who value the cinematic
aspects of life, why not host your own miniature international film
festival by renting a couple of movies from countries all over the
world? Just make sure that those movies you rent have the appropriate
subtitles so that everyone will be able to understand.
Guess The Country
This is an Around the World Quiz with a slight difference: clues have to be supplied to your guests to help them identify a country.
To make this game a bit more competitive, ensure that there is a prize for the pair or group who scores the most points as well as one for those who score the least amount of points.
International Wine Tasting
This activity might require a bit of a budget, but is well worth the money and the education, especially if you and your guests are passionate about wines.
Purchase a couple of bottles of wine from different countries around the world. This can be done from your local wine merchant or from the appropriate retailer on the internet.
Once you have your wines, set them up so that it resembles an official wine tasting. Be sure to do some research on all the different wines so as to supply your guests with a full background on the different types of wine they will be tasting.
To add a twist to the game, test their
memories and their taste buds by asking them to identify the
different types of wine and name the countries they are from.
Food & Drink
As you may have guessed, with an Around the World party comes Around the World food. Do some research into the various types of foods and cuisines from around the world and see which of the ingredients you'll be able to obtain from your local grocer. Or, if you really don't feel like cooking, simply order some take away! This can include Italian food, Chinese food, Japanese Food, Indian Food, African Food, etc.
As for drinks, well, we'll leave that to you and the takeaway menu. Otherwise, simply browse the internet for recipes for international cocktails.
