Witch costume
Witches have long been associated with Halloween and the witch costume is one of the most traditional costumes of them all. No matter how old we get, dressing up as a witch is always appealing and this is a costume that is easy to recreate and wear more than once throughout a person's lifetime. If you are planning on dressing up as a witch this coming Halloween, then you will want to do it the right way. First you will have to decide what type of witch costume you want. Do you want it to be sexy or scary? Do you want warts on your nose?
Whether you are a man or a woman you will need to get a dress or robe to wear as the main part of your costume. It should be black and you can cut the bottom hem so that it is jagged. Women can also wear a top and skirts and you can layer it up and make it looks full and ruffled. Your top, skirt, dress, or robes can look worn and old to help with the effect and you can add a cloak to complete the outfit if you wish. This can be a cloak you purchase at a used clothing shop, a discount store, or a party supply store. You can also make the cloak yourself by simply pinning a black piece of fabric around your shoulders. Spider web fabric would be perfect. If you want a hunchback appearance, then you can roll up an old pillowcase or something similar and stuff it inside the back of your shirt or dress.
Now for your hair. As a witch you want to have fantastic hair. You can wear a wig or you can color your own hair. You can streak it with white or gray temporary hair color or you can color it completely gray. You can use a glitter spray if you wish. Once you have your hair all set you need to add a pointy witch's hat. After all, you aren't a witch without a hat. You can make one yourself or you can buy one in a costume shop or discount store. Regardless of how you choose to do it, you can add to it by using fancy glitter glue to draw moons and stars and other witchy shapes on it.
Makeup may be the funnest part of all. When you are a witch you can make your whole face green. You can also purchase or use makeup to create a witch's nose and chin. A good way to make a nose is to mold aluminum foil to fit over your nose and take the shape of the witch's nose you desire. Then you can tape it into place and use non-toxic face paint to paint over it and blend it in with the color of the rest of the face. Just be sure not to cover up the nostrils. Female witches can use false eyelashes and you can use black eyeliner around the eyes if you wish. Black or deep red lipstick will add to the look and adding some nasty warts will finish it off. You can also use special blackout for teeth if you want to make it look like you have rotting or missing teeth.
Once you add black shoes and black or striped tights for the female witches you will be all set. Then you can grab your broomstick and soar off into the night in search of your party or trick-or-treating, the choice of which will, of course, depend on your age. Dressing as a witch is ideal for men and women and all you have to do is alter the details of the costume accordingly. In fact, the Harry Potter movies have made it more popular for boys and men to dress up as a male witch or wizard. You will have a fantastic night as a witch. All you have to do is remember to cackle and you will have the part down perfectly.
