It's time for a groovin' party and out theme is Disco Fever! Below you will be able to find all the tips and information you will need to organize the successful event. But before we get to that, just a little more on our current topic.
Now just in case you didn't know, "Disco Fever" was actually the name of a club in the South Bronx, the doors of which were first opened by Ally Abbatiello in 1976. Now at that stage it was to be an adult disco, but there was one person that thought he could do better.
Sal, Ally's son, thought that a younger crowd would be able to benefit much more from the music and the environment of the club. As such, he convinced his dad to give him the disco. This was in 1977, just a year after Ally first opened the doors. Now as you may know, the success of any club not only depends on its functionality, but also on the music. Sal knew this and therefore got in touch with one of the biggest names in modern music history... Grandmaster Flash. Together they provided the scene that would not only become a huge local success, but influence culture on a global scale.
From that time onward, Disco Fever has seen a host of famous persona of the music industry perform there. These include the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, the Cash Crew, Sequence and the Sugar Hill Gang among many, many others.
That being said, it's time to party!
Below you will find a couple of ideas
for invitations. These, of course, are one of the most necessary
aspects of a party as they let your friends know they are invited and
also supplies the party details.
Party Name: Give your party a name in line with the theme, such as “Jill’s ‘70s Groove Fandango”

Additional information…
The Disco Fever design invitation is by far the easiest and least expensive of them all. For this you’ll only need a computer loaded with the appropriate software, the necessary computer skills, a printer and some glitter as well as confetti/taffeta. For those who don’t have a printer, have your invitations printed at your local printing firm.
Now here’s what you’ll have to keep in mind: the 70’s had their own unique fonts and images types at the time. Using them will only add to that original 70’s feel.
To start off you’ll need an image – either from a clipart library, scanned or downloaded (with permission) – that reflects the main element of the Disco Fever theme. This will either be someone striking a dance pose or a disco ball. Once you’ve got your image, simply position it on your invitation template and edit it as necessary. Colors to be used include yellows, browns, greens, pinks and light blues. Remember to fill your invitation with the details listed above.
Once you’re done, decorate your invitation with the glitter or confetti to make it look like an authentic 70’s invitation.
Simply have a look on the internet or pay a visit to the appropriate store in your area to get your hands on a couple of disco ball pendants or necklaces. If you are only getting the pendants, then you will have to supply something to act as a chain. This can be anything from fake gold/silver plastic chains to ribbons, etc.
Once you have that, you will also have to make a paper-based invitation for each friend you wish to invite. When all’s done, simply attach the invitation to the necklace and get ready to deliver!
Too old for bubbles? Never!
For this invitation all you will need to do is get each of your friends… bubbles! This will make a great invitation that they can have hours of fun with.
Now, along with the bubbles, you will also need to make a paper-based invitation. This can be done using our Disco Design invitation or by buying them from the appropriate store in your area (or from the internet). Alternatively, design your party invitation on computer and have it printed onto stickers which can then be attached to the bubbles bottle.
Disco Fever Party Dress Code
The uniform for a ‘70s disco were usually the following:
These were worn by both men and women (although many women wore boots in those days). However, seeing as the disco era expanded globally and over a couple of decades, the styles you’d be able to choose from are endless.
The following items you’ll be able to
get from your local disco merchandise supply store or from the
internet.
Disco ball
Glitter
Posters of famous DJs
Balloons
Streamers
Colored lights
Bubbles
For those who go out clubbing, you will
know that there is seldom any special introduction or announcement.
However that doesn’t mean you can’t have a red carpet leading
from the driveway to your front door. In addition, why not ask your
dad or another male member of your family to dress up in a tux and
welcome your guests as they arrive?
Party favors are those items that will
ensure that your friends remember the event long after it has
happened. They are also intended as a ‘thanks for coming’ gift.
As such, put a little thought in to what you will be getting your
guests. Below are a couple of our ideas, all of which you can buy
either at the appropriate retail store in your area, or from the
internet.
Miniature disco balls
Key rings
Shades (even though it wasn’t that bright inside, people still wore them)
Calendars
T-shirts
Elaborate scarves
Jewellery
At a disco party there will be lots of dancing, so be sure to add some of these artists to your collection: Bee Gee’s, Gloria Gaynor, The Village People and The Beastie Boys. These are but some of thousands, so you will have to do some research.
To play this game you will need a lot of balloons (at least one per person playing)! And you will have to fill them up with water, too - but be sure to keep them relatively small, say just a nit bigger than a baseball ball. If you want to add a bit of excitement to the game, have two pairs of oven mitts ready too.
To play this game you will have to form a circle with your friends and put the music on. As soon as everyone is dancing, get a water balloon and toss it into the circle. The person it is tossed at will have to catch it, otherwise they are out for the current round. If a bad toss is made, then the person that threw the water balloon is also out.
The winner of the game is obviously the
person who stays in the longest.
A fun game and one that will definitely see a couple of weird postures. To play this game you simply need an apple and your mates.
When it's time for the activity, you
and your friends will have to sit in a circle. Take the apple and
clench it between your lower jaw and your throat. This is where the
fun starts as you now have to pass the apple to the person to your
left without using your hands. The person the apple is being passed
to will have to take it from you between their lower jaw and their
throat, etc. If the apple drops, you will have to find a novel way of
picking it up so that it is once again clenched between your lower
jaw and your throat.
Ensure a good time is had by all by making a night out of it and going to your local ice rink or roller-skating rink. As you know, they are pretty big on music there and it’s an activity that will fit right in with your party.
We all know musical chairs and as such it will make for an excellent activity. To play it you need one less chair than there are people dancing. As soon as the music starts, you will all have to dance in a circle around the chairs. When the music stops, everyone has to grab a chair. The person left standing is out for the current round.
The winner of the activity is the
person who manages to get the last chair!
More often than not, you won’t find
too many different types of foods in clubs, except perhaps some
chips, peanuts, etc. So in this case you will have to prepare your
own menu. Here are a couple of ideas for snacks and foods. If you
need any recipes for the items described, just have a look on the
internet.
Nuts
Chips
Sandwiches
Fajitas
Tacos
Hot dogs
Chicken wings
Crackers
Salads.
Hamburgers
Pizzas
Pies
Roast Beef
Pasta
Spanish Rice
In addition to the foods, you will have to furnish your guests with drinks such as sodas, lemonade, fruit juices, etc.
