Introduction

Time again for a celebration, and more specifically, Easter. We all know it as an annual celebration which makes it the pefect opportunity for a party. Below you will find bits of information that will help you organize a successful event. But before we get to that, just a couple of facts about Easter.

The name Easter comes from the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess called Eastre. Accordingly her symbols included the hare and the egg.

While many may only attribute the hare (or bunny) and the egg to Eastre, they are in fact symbols of fertility that tie in with the vernal equinox.

Ever painted Easter eggs? If so, then you were practicing the art of Pysana.

In the early days, Easter baskets resembled birds' nests. This was because the egg is seen as the ultimate symbol of rebirth (tying in with the religious aspect of Easter).

Chocolatiers never used to make Easter eggs or Easter bunnies, but religious figures. This, however, proved to be rather unpopular with the religious public.

And sticking with chocolate, you'll be surprised to find that there are 90 million chocolate bunnies made every year. Notably, it's their ears that get eaten first in 76% of all cases. And just in case 90 million is a lot, consider that there are more than 16 billion jellybeans made every year, just for this occasion.

That being said, it’s time to organize the party!

Easter Party Invitations

Below you will find some useful ideas for Easter Party invitations. Should you require any of the materials or items necessary, just ask your parents to help by purchasing them from a retail store in your area or from the Internet. And remember, including the following information in your invitation will ensure that your guests will have all the information they need.

  • Party Name: Be sure to give your party a cool Easter name. Think along the lines of “Allan’s Easter Fiesta!”

  • Salutation:

  • Date & Time

  • Venue/Location

  • Dress Code

  • Contact Details

  • Additional information…

Easter Design

By far the easiest and most cost effective invitation to make, the Easter Design is an invitation that will simply require a computer and a printer. If you don't have any of these, be sure to ask a friend who has if you would be able to use theirs. In addition, we would recommend the use of a template to ensure that your layout is designed without a hitch (it can be quite tricky otherwise).

First off you will need to make a design for the cover of your invitation. This will typically be an image combined with the name of your party. If you are having trouble finding a suitable image, just have a look on the Internet (though be sure that you have the necessary permissions to use the image in question).

Once you have your image, it is simply a task of combining it with your party name (in a suitable font).

Now, for the inside or flip side of your card you will obviously need to add your party details along with some minor decorations (just to ensure that there isn't too much blank space). Once that's done, print off a sample to ensure that you are totally happy with it before printing off each of your friend's single invitations.

Paper Mache Easter Egg

For this invitation you will need a paper mache mixture as well as some paint (and a paintbrush of course). In addition, you will be needing a balloon for each egg you want to make.

Now, to start off you will need to inflate the balloons to the appropriate size as these will be the shape around which you will fashion your Easter eggs (it will therefore also make sense to use round or oval balloons for this invitation).

Once you have your balloons inflated, it is simply a question of applying the paper mache in a couple of layers and then letting it lie outside or in a warm place so that it can dry sufficiently.

When that's done, it is time to decorate! This will naturally require a bit of creativity on your behalf, but will nevertheless provide hours of fun. If you are stuck for decorative patterns, just have a look on the Internet.

Remember to add the invitation details to the surface of your egg after the paint has dried.

When all is done and you are happy with your creation, it's time to put on your Easter Bunny suit and get ready to deliver.

Easter Bunny Ears

For this invitation you will need to ask your parents for a bit of help to buy each of the friends you wish to invite a pair of Easter Bunny ears. These can naturally be bought from the appropriate retailer or from the Internet.

Now in addition to the Easter Bunny ears, you will also need to make a small card-based invitation with all the necessary party details, just like the one described in the Easter Design (alternatively you can also buy them).

Once you have your Bunny Ears and the invitations to go with them, simply have them delivered and get on with the rest of the party organization!

Easter Party Dress Code

Since there is no official dress code associated with Easter, you will do well to get a bit creative. Think along the lines of dressing up as bunnies, etc. Whatever you decide, be sure to state it as such on your invitations.

Easter Party Decorations

Decorating for Easter won’t be too hard as the shops are full of Easter decorations around that time of year. Here are a couple of ideas you can use:

  • Giant Easter eggs (centerpieces)

  • Balloons (Green, red, yellow, brown)

  • Streamers

  • Toy bunnies placed randomly

  • Banners

Easter Party Guest Arrival & Announcement

As with Christmas, there is no formal announcement necessary as it is usually a time when friends and family get together to enjoy each other’s company. However, as host or hostess, you can dress up as the Easter bunny and await your friends at the door. As soon as they arrive, welcome them by giving them an Easter egg.

  • Calendars

  • Key rings

  • Posters

  • Banners

  • T-shirts

Easter Party Activities

Treasure Hunt

Easter is the time for Easter Egg hunts, though this time the Easter Bunny also hid something else. For this party you will have to ask your parents to buy a secret treasure that they must hide in your garden. Additionally, they will have to make a couple of maps – some of them false – that will lead you to the treasure.

To make it a bit more competitive, why not divide into various teams with your friends to look for the secret treasure? Naturally, the team who finds it first, wins (just be sure that the secret treasure is something that the whole winning group will be able to enjoy).

Spot The Easter Bunny

Have you ever seen Santa Claus? Probably not. And what about the Easter Bunny? No, we didn't think so. The reason for this is that they are really good at hiding from people!

For this game you and your friends will have to make a circle. Cut out a piece of paper into as many squares as there are guests and mark one of them with a large 'X'. Put all the little squares into a bag, basket or hat and invite your friends to draw a single square from the bag. Now they will have to keep what's on the little scrap of paper a secret at all costs, because the one with the paper marked with the 'X' is the Easter Bunny.

Now, the game rules state that the secret Easter Bunny has to wink at people to knock them out of the game. If someone has been winked at, then they have to remove themselves from the circle, without revealing the identity of the secret Easter bunny. However, if someone suspects someone else of being the Easter Bunny, they then have to say “I see the Easter Bunny!” and point him out. If they are right, the game starts again with the scraps of paper being drawn. However, if they are wrong, then they have just eliminated themselves from the current round.

Easter Message

How good are you and your friends' communication skills? This is a game with a very important mission: the Easter Bunny has a message that needs to travel and arrive intact at its destination.

This game starts with everyone sitting in a circle, and one person being nominated as the Easter Bunny. Now, the intended recipient of the message is the person to the Easter Bunny's right. The Easter Bunny has to whisper a message to the person to their left (but be careful, no one else must hear!). The person to the Easter Bunny's left then has to whisper the message to the person on their left, etc. until the message finally arrives at the person to the right of the Easter Bunny. This person then has to say the message out loud and see if it is indeed the message that the Easter Bunny has sent.

The next person to be the Easter Bunny is of course the person to the previous Easter Bunny's right.

This game will have you all in stitches as messages often become obscured as they get passed along.

Easter Basketball

After so much treasure hunting, whispering and looking for the Easter Bunny, it's time to stretch those legs and get some good old exercise!

This is a normal game of basketball, but with a slight difference..... you have to use a football (decorated as an Easter Egg) instead of a normal basketball ball. In addition, to make the game a bit more fun, everyone has to hop around like the Easter Bunny.

Food & Drink

Chocolate! And lots of it! Just kidding, though chocolate would have to feature somewhere. Here are a couple of ideas for foods, both traditional and the more regular kind that everyone enjoys. Should you need a recipe for any of them, be sure to have a look on the internet.

  • Hard boiled eggs

  • Hot cross buns

  • Ham

  • Mutton

  • Spicy wedges

  • Chocolate Truffles

  • Sweet Potato Fries with Curry Mayonnaise

  • Bananas with vanilla ice cream and a luscious chocolate sauce
