It's time again for some serious partying! And there's no theme that can match a Hollywood party for glitz and glamour. Below you will find a couple of ideas you can use to help organize your party. But just before we get to that, a couple of things your might not have known concerning Hollywood and its stars.
Did you know that the Hollywood sign was built in 1923 by Harry Chandler? This was for a cost of $21,000 and was supposed to only last a year. In addition, the Hollywood sign said "Hollywoodland" as it was land that was for sale. The "LAND" was removed in 1949.
And on to the actors and actresses...
Like the TV series friends, do you? Well did you know that Craig Bierko was initially cast as Chandler Bing? He, however, turned it down and the part went to Matthew Perry.
Did you know that James Woods has an IQ of 180? Indeed, he does. You may also be surprised to find out that Courtney Love has an IQ of 160, as does Sylvester Stallone and Quentin Tarantino. Think you have what it takes to challenge Madonna with your intellect? Well, only if you have an IQ over 140.
Now, as you may have known, celebrities don't always use their real names. Instead, they use stage names. Here are a couple of real names of those A-listers we often see on screen and in magazines:
Antonio Banderas: Jose Antonio Dominguez Bandera
Bruce Willis: Walter Bruce Willison
Goldie Hawn: Goldie Jean Studlendgehawn
Susan Sarandon: Susan Abigail Tomalin
Kevin Spacey: Kevin Fowler
Jane Seymour: Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg
By far the easiest invitation to make is the Hollywood design. For this invitation you will simply need a computer loaded with the appropriate software as well as a printer. If you don't have either of these, be sure to ask a friend if you could use theirs.
To start off you will have to consider what symbols or designs one usually associates with the Hollywood Stars. In some cases this could be the Hollywood star itself (as found on the Hollywood walk of fame) and in other cases the Hollywood sign. Once you have your image and made all the necessary adjustments, apply the name of your party in a suitable font.
Next up you will have to add the details of your party to the inside or the flip side of the invitation. Remember to include as much information as possible so your friends will be fully informed before they arrived at your party.
When everything's done, all you will
need to do is get them printed and then ready them for delivery.
For the Hollywood award you will need to pay a visit to the appropriate store in your area or have a look on the internet for a fake Hollywood award for each of your friends.
Once you have the awards, you will need to add the details of the invitation to them. This can either be done by having the awards engraved with the details or by making a paper-based invitation to go with the awards.
When you are finally done, just attach
the invitation to the award (if your award is paper-based) and get
ready to deliver them.
This invitation will require the use of a computer loaded with the appropriate software as well as a printer capable of printing posters. If you don't have either one, then ask someone who does or get in contact with your local printing firm to see whether they will be able to do the job for you.
Now, the idea is to make a spoof of a previous movie poster. These are available on the internet however you would need to check whether you have suitable permissions to use them for you party invitation purposes. Once you have your poster images, it's time to start manipulating them! This can easiest be done using an image editing suite like Adobe Photoshop or The Gimp. Some ideas include changing the faces on the movie poster to those of your friends or just the name of the movie to that of your party and then adding the invitation details in the place of the credits.
When the design is finally done, have a
sample printed to see how it looks. If you are happy, simply have the
posters printed and get ready to deliver.
It’s a Hollywood party and therefore your guests can either come as the stars, dressed in their finest or like characters from the films. Whatever you decide, be sure to stipulate it on your invitations under the “Dress Code” section.
From your local Hollywood souvenir shop
or from the internet you will be able to find all the Hollywood
souvenirs to make your party an authentic event. Here are a couple of
ideas to look out for:
Life-size Oscar posters
Movie posters
Stand-up posters (characters from well known movies)
Balloons (if you are having a formal event, keep them one color – red, blue, black, white or even silver).
Streamers
Film strips
Film reels
It’s Hollywood, which means that rolling out the red carpet for your friends is the least you can do. Ask your dad or another male relative or friend to dress up in a Tux and welcome your guests as they arrive.
The options here are endless! Have a
look online or pay a visit to your local Hollywood souvenir store for
party favors. Here are a couple of our ideas to look out for:
Key rings
Miniature film reels
Posters
Stationary
Calendars
Awards
For this activity you will have to cut a sheet of paper into as many squares as there are participants. Each square should then be marked with a number.
Now, the person who has number one will have to start the acting session. He or she will have to describe the situation using their acting skills. Only when referring to someone else will the person with the next number (2) enter the stage and start interacting with the first actor. After that it is up to either the first or the second actor to refer to a person upon which the next actor will enter the stage area.
To make this exercise worthwhile, make
a recording of it and distribute the recording as a party favor
afterwards or post it on the internet.
Hollywood awards acceptance speeches can either be totally boring or, in some cases, extremely amusing and funny. In this case you and your friends will all have to assume that you've each won an award. This award can be for any position in a film, such as best leading actor or actress, best supporting role, etc.
The person with the funniest or most
amusing acceptance speech, is the overall winner (and could be
presented with a real award if one has been bought before the party).
Well, there's not much to explain with this activity. It is simply an opportunity for a couple of good friends to come together and watch some of their favorite films. The host or hostess of the party will have to organize the appropriate snacks and drinks and perhaps also the films (if the guests aren't bringing their own).
There's only one reason why you probably chose to have a Hollywood party - because you love it! Right? And as such, it is probably safe to assume that you have a pretty extensive knowledge of all things Hollywood. But what about your friends?
For this activity you will have to get your hands on a Hollywood trivia set which can be bought from your local toy store or off the Internet. Alternatively you can simply do a bit of research and write up your own question and answer sets.
When it is time for the activity to begin, pair your guests into groups, making sure that there is a mixture of those who you think will have a good knowledge of the topics with those who may not have such a strong foundation.
And just to add a bit of competitiveness to the whole activity, why not buy or make a prize for the winning pair or group before the party?
This depends on the type of party you are having. For those events where you and your friends will be dressing up like the stars do on formal occasions, you will want a menu with some select dishes (if your budget allows).
Here are a couple of ideas for your
menu:
Seafood
Snails
Lobster
Oysters
Mussels
Fish (Salmon, Sole, etc.)
Red Meat
Beef Steaks
Stews
Pork Chops
Lamb Cutlets
Veal
Salads
Greek Salad
Garlic & Crouton Salad
Bacon & Parmesan Salad
Fruit Salad
Potato Salad
Other than that, why not just invest in
normal foods and snacks, the kinds everyone enjoys. These include the
following:
Nuts
Chips
Sandwiches
Fajitas
Tacos
Hot dogs
Chicken wings
Crackers
Salads.
Hamburgers
Pizzas
In addition, be sure to supply something they can wash the food down with. Ideas include non-alcoholic cocktails, lemonade, sodas, fruit juices, etc.
