In terms of a themed party, you can’t get any better than a sports party. It is perhaps one of the most enjoyable events anyone can hope to organize as it usually brings out their true colors. And to help you organize your sports party, we’ve put our heads together to come up with some pretty amazing tips, if we do say so ourselves.
Now organizing a sports party can be a bit challenging seeing as there are quite a number of variations on the theme. But it can also provide an amazing opportunity for you and your guests to have the time of your life. As such we can recommend any of the following sports parties:
All-Time Greats
Having a party on this variation means that all your guests will have to come dressed as some of the biggest sport stars of all time. Think of names such as Michael Jordan, Ben Johnson, Sebastian Coe, Babe Ruth, Pelé and Muhammad Ali. Should you choose to use this as your party theme, be sure to adjust the details below accordingly.
Worst of the Worst
As opposed to those sports heroes that have managed to pull of the impossible during matches and events, this party theme is specifically pointed to those sporting individuals who’ve failed to perform at crucial moments by missing that single, most important shot. Having this type of party will enable your guests to have a laugh as all of them will have something to tell.
Grecian Olympics
It is commonly that this is where most sporting activities or the idea of sports competitions originated from. You and your guests will be able to dress up as Greek heroes of old and be able to regal each other with impossible tales.
Essentially it is totally up to you to decide on a theme for your party. And as soon as you have one (should you not be using any of the above), have a look below for some ideas to turn your party into an event to be remembered for years to come.
As the central element to any party are
the guests, you’ll need to ensure that your party has plenty of
them. And as such, you’ll find ideas for some striking invitations
below. Be sure to include the following information in your
invitation to supply your guess with all that they need to know:
Party Name: Make sure this is creative and appealing. Here’s an idea: “Zues’ Olympian Hero Feast” or “Coach Mike’s Historic Baseball Bash”
Salutation
Date & Time

What's the one thing everyone who participates in sport is usually aiming for? First place! And for this invitation, all your friends will be champions for the simple fact that, well, they're your friends!
As such, this invitation will require you to go and buy either a medal, a trophy or a certificate for each of the people you wish to invite. If you are planning on buying one of the first two, then you could go one of two routes:
a. Have the names of your guests along with the rest of the party details engraved on the award.
b. Create paper-based invitations that you will attach to the awards.
If you are planning to use the certificate as your sports party invitation, then you will need a computer loaded with the appropriate software and a printer.
When your invitations are done, all
that’s left to take care of is the delivery!
First off you will need to decide what kind of sports party you will be having. If there's going to be an emphasis on a certain sport (that uses a ball as a main element) like basketball, baseball, football or soccer, then you will need to get each of your friends a (miniature) ball of that particular sport. For those planning to just have a general sports party, a mixture of baseballs, basketballs, footballs, etc. will do.
Now, once you have the balls, you can go one of three ways:
a. Design a card-based invitation to go with the balls.
b. Write the details of your party on the ball using a neat hand and some artistry.
c. Have the details of your party printed onto the ball. If there's no one in your are capable of printing on sports balls or items, just have a look on the internet for the appropriate service supplier.
When your invitation balls are
finished, get ready to deliver them!
Design your own party banner invitation for each of your friends in the colors of your favorite teams. This can be done using a computer with some banner designing software (some of which are freely available on the internet). Remember to include all the necessary details to ensure that your guests have all the information they need for the party.
Once you have your design finished, all that’s left to do is to get your banners printed and delivered.
The dress code for your party can be anything from the old Olympian robes to your favorite teams colors. Whatever you decide, be sure to specify it as such under the “Dress Code” section of your invitations.
Here are a couple of suggestions for decorations you and your friends will be able to use for your sports party. These can be found at the appropriate retailer in your area or on the internet.
Banners
Flags
Pendants
Trophies
Posters
Sports team jerseys
Ask a relative or a friend to dress up as a TV reporter or sportscaster. You’ll also need a camera man and a camera, so ask someone you know to have one and is up for the job.
Now, as each guest arrives, the sportscaster/reporter will have to do an interview with them and ask a couple of sporting questions. Your friends, on the other hand, can pretend to be a famous sporting personality.
The recordings of threes interviews will make excellent party favors.
Party favors are those items you use to
thank your guests for coming, but also to ensure that they remember
your party for days, weeks, months and possibly years to come. Below
you will find a couple of our ideas, all of which you will be able to
find at the appropriate retailer in your area or on the internet.
Miniature Trophy
Fake Olympic Medal.
Posters
Playing cards
Souvenirs
T-shirts
Apparel
Know your sport, do you? Well now's the time to find out with the sports quiz. For this activity you will need a quiz set – which you can make yourself by doing a little bit of research on the internet. Failing that, why not just pop down to the appropriate store in your area or have a look on the Internet for some quiz sets suitable to your party.
Once it is time for the event to start,
divide your guests into groups (making sure that those with a good
sports knowledge are paired with those who might know more about
something else) and get ready for quiz time!
The name says it all, but does require some knowledge about sports, especially the best of moments as well as the worst of moments. If you suspect that your friends might not know too many of either, compile a tape or a couple of video clips before the party which you will be able to watch when the time comes. Now, it might also be a good idea to make or buy an award for the person or acting group who acts out their famous sporting moment the best.
Once it's time for the event, simply
arrange a little stage area where you and your friends will be able
to act out the reenactments of your choice and ensure that there is
an impartial entity present to judge (like a parent).
If you or your friends have a swimming pool, then this activity idea will be ideal! This activity will require you to get your hands on a set of equipment for your favorite land sports, but in the pool. Examples here include inflatable goal posts, floating volleyball nets, etc.
When everything has been organized, dive in and get going with your favorite sports!
Now this activity will require some creativity on your behalf. The purpose of it is to combine two sporting items, such as a tennis racket and a basketball and combining it with the rules of another sport, like football. Here are a couple of ideas for funny sports games:
Tennis racket + basketball + football rules
Ice hockey stick + tennis ball + billiards rules
Football ball + baseball bat + volleyball rules
Get the idea? See how many you can come up with and which ones will be enjoyed by all the guests. And remember to put safety first by wearing the appropriate protection.
We all know what kinds of foods sports
fans like! Below you’ll find a couple of our suggestions that
you’ll be able to find at your local supermarket. Otherwise, just
have a look on the internet for recipes.
Cheesy nacho platter
BBQ Burgers
Sausage Rolls
Pizza Bases
Nuts
Chips
Sandwiches
Fajitas
Tacos
Hot dogs
Chicken wings
Crackers
Salads

Be sure to have some lemonade, fruit juices, sodas, milkshakes etc. ready to wash down the food.
